Reach started life as Southwell Care Project in 1999. The charity was set up by a small group of family carers who were worried about the lack of LOCAL support and meaningful activity for adults with learning disabilities in the small market town of Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
We soon gained a reputation for offering high quality, personalised and flexible support and fun, engaging activities. The importance of opportunity to be part of community life remains a key focus.
The demand for our services kept growing. With support from local and national funders, and the backing of the local community, we have been able to enhance our offer and reach more adults with learning disabilities. In 2009 we established a second service in nearby Newark. In 2012 we opened our Mansfield service and our horticultural social enterprise Flower Pod. We also provide personal assistants/support workers through our care provider company – The Care Project.
We’ve changed a lot since 1999!
So we’ve chosen a new name to show some important things about us:
- We support adults with learning disabilities to reach beyond expectation
- Our services reach adults with learning disabilities across Nottinghamshire
- We need to reach more adults with learning disabilities and their families
- We need to reach more supporters
